The Science of Interpretation

Hermeneutics. What? Exactly. This morning I am spending a couple of hours observing Acts 1:8 and trying to extract about 25 separate observations. Here is the verse:

“but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” (NASB)

It’s a process folks. Being able to see a verse from so many different angles is a skill to be acquired. So why the fancy word to define what “Biblical Dissection” means? Wow, just looked it up and here’s the def:

her·me·neu·tics, [hur-muhnoo-tiks, nyoo] – noun

1. the science of interpretation, esp. of the Scriptures.
2. the branch of theology that deals with the principles of Biblical exegesis.

The science of interpretation. So according to this, I’m a scientist. Neat.
